State Convention of the Republican Party of Virginia   Print

May 31 (Saturday) - State Convention of the Republican Party of Virginia.  This requires prior registration with your local party organization.  To be selected at the convention are 27 Delegates and 27 Alternates to the 2008 Republican National Committee (RNC); 2 Electors At Large to serve on the 2008 Electoral College; the Republican State Party Chairman; an RNC National Committeeman and National Committeewoman; and the Republican Candidate for the U.S. Senate in the November general election.

The convention will be held in the Greater Richmond Convention Center in Richmond.

Of particular concern is that the current State Party Chairman, former Lt. Governor John Hager, is being challenged by a far right opponent who is strongly supported by the Family Foundation.

Barry Goldwater, speaking in 1981: "I'm frankly sick and tired of the political preachers across this country telling me as a citizen that, if I want to be a moral person, I must believe in A, B, C, or D . . . .I am even more angry as a legislator who must endure the threats of every religious group who thinks it has some God-granted right to control my vote on every roll call in the Senate."
